The Deptford Township Police Department recommitted to a Police K-9 program in 1993 when it trained a K-9 "Bubba" in narcotic's detection.  Bubba's handler was then narcotic's Detective Robert Bott, now Sergeant Bott assigned to the Patrol Division.  Since then, the K-9 unit has grown to its current strength of four (4) officers.  The four (4) K-9's assigned to the unit are specialty trained in a variety of K-9 disciplines.

The Unit's coordinator, Sergeant Kevin Pancoast, was instrumental in reestablishing this unit in the Patrol Division and currently his dog, "Rookie", is the longest standing member of this unit and is cross trained as a patrol dog and narcotic's detection dog.

Patrolman Frank Newkirk, K-9 partner "Toby" and Michael Divito, K-9 partner "Rocco"  are currently trained as Patrol dogs; and Patrolman Adam Ziegler, K-9 partner "Aron" is specialty trained as a explosives detection dog exclusively.

These K-9 Officers are extremely committed to making Deptford Township the safest community in our county.  They dedicate a great deal of personal time to their duties as K-9 Officers attending various educational and community sponsored events and caring for their K-9 partners.  They are all on call 24 hours a day and are always willing to serve not only the Deptford community but other communities in our county and region.

Any questions regarding K-9 services or a request for use of our K-9 Officers should be made via the unit's coordinator, Sergeant Kevin Pancoast.  He can be reached via the phone number and email link above.

Currently Deptford Township Police has one retired K-9.  K-9 "Bear" was retired approximately two years ago after he was no longer able to perform his duties due to medical reasons.  He is enjoying retirement living with his handler, now Detective John Senick.
