Mayor's Message

Mayor Paul Medany’s Monthly Message - July 2021

This week we celebrate our independence as a country. The 4th of July weekend brings barbecues, travel, fireworks and celebrations. Please keep safety at the forefront of your weekend. Fireworks are very dangerous. Please do not drink and drive ever, especially this weekend when celebrations can cause careless decisions.

Our first summer barbecue is coming up on July 10th, please go to our website and social media pages for event times, dates and details. We are looking forward to seeing you this summer at one of our great programs or events. Our Recreation Liaison Deputy Mayor Tom Hufnell has worked with our department to bring fun for every age group. There are weekly senior activities, playgrounds for kids, great open spaces to explore and the best in shopping and dining.

Now Open!  Launch Trampoline Park, Round One Entertainment in the Mall all fun for the whole family. “Beat the heat” at Fasola Park with our splash pad and playgrounds  where you will also find tennis courts, walking trails and pavilions available for rental parties.

Summer Discount Tickets are available for Morey’s Pier, Splash Zone, Hershey Park, Adventure Aquarium, at the Municipal Building or Free Public Library.

Local finances and taxes are always such an important topic. Township Council works on our budget year round. Again this year the finance committee, Councilman Ken Barnshaw and Bill Lamb crafted a ZERO local tax increase budget. This means that Council did not raise your taxes this budget year. This is an extremely challenging task, but we know everyone needed tax relief. Keep in mind Council collects taxes for the School District, Public Library, Fire District, County Government and all of which is broken down on your tax bill.

Councilman Phil Schocklin has been working with our Economic Development team to bring new business in to town. The Republic Bank just opened, the new Super Wawa will open this fall. These are just a few of the new business openings we have coming. Councilman Wayne Love and Councilwoman MacKenzie Belling have been working on open space purchases and development. We all know how important it is to preserve open space for future generations and for us to enjoy now.

As you can see we are working every day to keep our community moving forward. Deptford has the best neighborhoods, a terrific School District, outstanding Public Safety and awesome recreation opportunities. We listen to your needs, we work to implement them and we get it done!
